It’s Our RAANiversary!

by Jemar Tisby

Happy RAANiversary! One year ago today we launched the RAANetwork website.  The date was deliberate.  October 31st is Reformation Day--a fitting anniversary to commemorate the Reformed African American Network (RAAN) because of why we exist.

RAAN exists to fuel modern reformation in the African American community with a multi-ethnic mindset.  We fuel that reformation by providing biblically faithful resources in the Reformed tradition.  By creating a network of African American Christians and other like-minded believers of all races.  And by developing theology in community through original content from a variety of contributors with diverse ethnic and experiential backgrounds.

We started in October 2011 with a simple Facebook page.  Then we took to Twitter a few months later and over the course of almost year we let the ministry grow and garner attention.  Finally in October 2012 we were ready to launch our website, raanetwork.org.  This was a milestone because it meant that we could now produce our own content in the form of blog posts, podcasts, and videos.

By God’s grace many people have found these resources helpful.  The RAANetwork is thousands strong and spans the nation from California to New Jersey and beyond from South Africa to Singapore.  We’ve added new talent in the form of contributors who write for us regularly.  And we’ve significantly increased the number of guest posts to the site.  Along the way we’ve encountered passionate believers who wanted to help.  On a purely voluntary basis we’ve added editors, audio and visual personnel, and others who busily labor behind the curtain.

God has done so much more than we asked for or expected.  Praise Him.

And the future for RAAN looks brighter still.  In the new year you’ll see more from us.  We plan to offer regular podcasts featuring discussions around culture, theology, and current events.  We’ll be doing more interviews and adding video to the mix.  We’ll be providing resources specifically focused on connecting people to local churches and pastors.  We’ll continue to be a presence exhibiting at conferences and connecting with you face-to-face.  And we’ll be launching a capital campaign to increase our capacity to serve in new and more effective ways.

On behalf of the staff and contributors at the Reformed African American Network, thank you for your support.  Thank you for reading the posts, clicking “like”, tweeting, donating money and other resources, and most of all for your prayers.

We couldn’t do this work without you, and we wouldn’t want to.  You, our readers, are our motivation for ministry in the love of the Lord.  We’re looking forward to another blessed year of serving you.  Thank you, and happy Reformation Day!
