“Whether or not we live the good life depends on what we have faith in. The good life is living by faith in a good God.” (p. 38)

Many believe that God exists, but Lee believes that it’s more than simply believing in God; it’s believing what He says and ordering your life around it. There is sacrifice in following the Lord. Lee is urging us in this chapter not to give lip service to God but to obey His commands in His word. He reviews with us once again about the lies we believe about what the good life is. But in the end we know that we can’t just live the good life and follow God’s commands. What we need is to be rescued.

Do you think that believing in God’s existence is enough? Do you know of anyone who believes in God (without naming names) and yet doesn’t submit to Him—or is that you? Have you been trying really hard to live this life that Lee speaks of but find yourself weary and tired? If so, why do you think this is?

So what do you think? Do you think that believing in God's existence is enough? I think that answer is no. Even the demons believe in one God and shudder. James 2:19. Many believe in God but do they believe that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life? -Trillia

The beauty of the Gospel is the perfect balance it brings to all issues, especially faith v. good works. The regenerate are compelled, enabled and empowered by the Holy Spirit to keep His Commandments as result of the gift of faith and repentance by God's grace alone. The unregenerate who claim Christ and quote scripture (usually completely out of context) rely on their own understanding and/or strength to be moral and become faithful. The ditches the latter tend to fall into are joyless, critical fundamentalism or baptized secular humanism. Gospel, Gospel, Gospel.
