Biblical Love is the Foundation of Justice

We are excited to present to you a series of videos by Dr. Anthony Bradley. If you’re not familiar with Dr. Bradley, he is Associate Professor of Theology and Ethics in the Public Service Program at The King’s College in New York City and serves as a Research Fellow at the Acton Institute.

Quotes from the video:

“And Jesus makes this really clear, he says, ‘If you love me, you will obey what I command.’ Not because it’s a burden. Not because you’re scared. Because you want to.”

“I talk about love a lot, and not this sort of empty, shallow, huggy kind of love. But the kind of love that puts yourself in a position to be willing to give your life for the other.”

“Love that puts you in the positions where you’re willing to suffer for the sake of speaking prophetic truth to your neighbor.”

“The kind of love that puts your life on the line for the sake of the gospel, the kingdom and the mission of God to redeem all things.”

“So we are a people of faith and practice who are motivated by this principle of loving God and loving neighbor and it takes us into interesting places.”

“Love determines not only our fidelity to the Triune God… but it also forms and shapes our orthopraxy.”

“Love must orient our orthopraxy, how we practice our faith [and] how we think about justice.”

“We often love people according to the broken ways in which we want to be loved.”

“Ultimately if we do not love people in the way God said they need to be loved… we will eventually undermine their dignity and not love them well.”
