Once again, an interesting podcast. While mass incarceration exacerbates fatherlessness, according to John Sowers (http://www.thementoringproject.org/team), fatherlessness leads to mass incarceration (not unlike the chicken and the egg conundrum). There might be a three prong approach to the issues of fatherlessness and mass incarceration: 1.) movement at the legal levels to administer justice in an equitable manner; 2.) mentor the men being released in the area of fatherhood [maybe these men could be mentored before they are released, so that they are ready to take on their fatherhood responsibilities once they are released]; and 3.) mentor fatherless children.

Yes, this old, bald, very conservative white guy did just suggest a possible solution other than “pull yourself up by your own bootstraps.” Yes, I am reading “Divided by Faith.” Old dogs can learn new tricks, but it takes a great deal of mental and emotional effort.

Blessings
